The Pew Forum

If you’re interested in the live-action drama of religion in the world (or at least, in North America) you should be aware of the Pew Forum. They have excellent statistics and infographics.

I think the most interesting statistics, for me, are the ones that show how each generation becomes successively less religious. It is a steady, pronounced trend. The most important thing that you can glean about religion from statistics, however, is that only a small fraction of people who check off “Christian” actually go to church and take it seriously. I have ambivalent feelings about this. On the one hand it annoys me because it is an inaccurate portrayal of the facts. On the other hand, I don’t know what kind of a social change it would be, if all those people’s mindsets changed such that they reported themselves unaffiliated.
